Terms of use

RealTag is free to use, with one rule that matters: do not use it to pass off something as the work of a person who did not make it.

1. The service

RealTag ("the tool") is a free, client-side web application that edits image metadata, simulates camera noise fingerprints and handles C2PA provenance manifests. It is provided by Bashige Studio ("we") at realtag.bashige.com. No account is required and no fee is charged.

2. Licence to use the tool

You may use RealTag for personal, commercial, educational and research purposes, including processing images you own and images you are authorised to edit. You may not present RealTag itself as your own product, resell access to it, or use it to build a service that circumvents a platform's own policies.

3. Acceptable use

  • Do not use RealTag to impersonate a real person, to fabricate evidence, or to misrepresent the authorship, provenance or nature of an image in a way that deceives people or misleads a court, an employer, an insurer or a marketplace.
  • Do not use RealTag to infringe copyright, to circumvent access controls, or to process material you have no right to modify.
  • Do not use RealTag to attack systems, to evade detection of abuse, or to distribute malware through modified files.
  • Do not remove or alter a C2PA content credential in order to conceal AI-generated content from an audience that is entitled to know about it, where disclosure is required by law, platform policy or contract.

4. Acceptable engineering use

Generating test fixtures, validating upload and compression pipelines, researching image forensics, and removing unnecessary metadata from your own files are all explicitly permitted, including in commercial engineering work.

5. No warranty

The tool is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that output files will be accepted by any particular platform, that metadata will be read correctly by every application, or that any specific detector will or will not identify an image. You are responsible for how you use the output.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, RealTag, including claims from platforms, rights holders or third parties about the content you process.

7. Your content and your files

You keep all rights to the images you process. Because the tool runs entirely in your browser, we never receive, store or claim any licence to your files.

8. Changes

These terms may be updated; the current version is always the one published on this page. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
